space and blues

no. 4655
no. 4655

Music to start February is from one of the best improvised soundtracks ever recorded. Generique is the first track from the film, Ascenseur pour l’Echafaud directed by Louis Malle. Malle had asked Miles Davis to improvise a soundtrack. It was Miles’ first recorded venturing into what has become known as modal jazz. It fits my mood this week. Enjoy. When you have the blues – it’s best to go along for the ride.

    Your 4655 is beautiful!
[I may be repeating myself but 1. can't help it, I like your work and 2. the more i enjoy something, the harder it is to find words!]
    Happy February, Terry! :-)

Tout simplement magnifique ! L’image est comme le disque de Miles Davis qui tourne sur la platine…
    Splendide blues !
    Belle soirée Terry !

Bless you my friend. I hadn’t thought of that – it is a bit like a Miles Davis disc spinning on a turntable. I like that. Thanks again. You also have a wonderful evening. :-)

Hello my Dutch friend. ALways good to hear from you. This is a great recording by Miles and was a predecessor to his Modal Jazz masterpiece A KIND OF BLUE. The movie is also quite incredible. When Criterion issued the movie on disc (by it’s English title – ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS) the wisely included a great 1/2 hr documentary about the making of the soundtrack.

Hi Terry, Beautiful and I always learn here.

    after a day of work
    Emmylou Harris sings
    my evening prayers

    Take care, Ellen

THanks Ellen. Emmylou Harris is one of the few country musicians that I actually enjoy. Her Roses in the Snow album is still a favorite for me. Have a great day.

Mesmerizing image. I’ve been staring at it for a few minutes. I feel as though I’ve stumbled upon some hieroglyphics or secret code.
Hope the blues lift for you soon. Or if not, that the ride is a good one. The music certainly is. :)

Malle and Davis – who could ask for more…

I enjoyed the music greatly, enjoyed the art even more.

Terry, both pieces are magnificent. This also happens to be one of my favorite Miles albums. It is a period of music production for him. And yes the movie was great as well. Interesting layers moving about in your art work. The textures continue to create mystery.
